The North Lake Tahoe and Truckee areas have been popular recreation and vacation destinations from early in the last century. The pristine beauty of the area has been carefully managed in an effort to preserve its unique character. More rapid development of the area commenced following the Winter Olympics at Squaw Valley in 1960. Since that time an increasing number of second homeowners and full time residents have chosen this area as the place of choice for owning a home.
